Oyo Police Recover 10,000 Live Cartridges From Criminal .

OPERATIVES of the Oyo State Police Command have recovered 10,000 live cartridges while arresting four suspects in the process.

The police also arrested operatives of a fake ‘wonder bank,’ who lured their victims by promising them to double of what they invest.

Speaking during the parade of the suspects at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, said on July 23, at about 2:00 p.m, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), received information that some hoodlums who specialised in supplying arms and ammunition to different armed robbery syndicates that had been terrorising members of the public within and outside Ibadan metropolis and other parts of the state, were sighted at their hideout at Oke Bola area of the state capital.

“Following this information, a team of SARS operatives swung into action and arrested four suspects, Adekunmi Abimbola, Abel Kojo, Mukaila Ariyo and Ade Adebayo.

“Ten thousand pieces of live cartridges, an unregistered Toyota Sienna LE minibus and a Toyota Camry with registration number, Lagos GGE 979 FT, were recovered from the suspects,” Olukolu said.

However, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, leader of the suspects, Abimbola, denied he supplied the cartridges to criminals, saying he only sold them to hunters.

Abimbola, who admitted what he was doing was illegal, said there are many hunters who buy the cartridges from him for hunting.

When asked if he knew what could happen if the cartridges got into wrong hands, the suspect said he was sure those buying from him were hunters and not armed robbers or kidnappers.

The police also arrested some suspected fraudsters who dupe their victims by luring them to invest a certain amount of money to collect double the amount invested in 24 hours.

The police commissioner said the suspects were arrested on July 30, at a hotel in Boluwaji area of Ibadan, after information got to the police that suspected armed robbers had lodged in the hotel.

“However, when the suspects, numbering 10, were arrested, one of them, Doyin Ayeni, claimed he was the chief executive officer of a microfinance bank, Staagmart Nigeria Ltd, which specialised in granting soft loans to its customers.

“Ayeni claimed that customers were to invest N30,000 and would be entitled to 10 per cent of the amount in five days, but after operating in Kogi State, they decided to abscond after they could no longer keep up with their promises to their investors.

“They then came to Ibadan, where they were arrested at the hotel,” Olukolu said.

While speaking with the Tribune Online, Ayeni said the company had a problem in Kogi State and had to move to Ibadan, where they were arrested at the hotel in which they lodged in.

Ayeni denied the company was into fraud but said it was duly registered with the appropriate authorities.

Among those arrested by the police was a gang of suspected armed robbers terrorising the people of Ibadan and environs, as well as two female armourers to a gang of armed robbers.

The police boss then said the suspects would be charged to court to answer for their alleged crimes upon completion of an investigation into their alleged crimes.
