I'm Wealthier Than Jostling For The Awujale Throne-Otunba Subomi

The Head of Arojojoye Ruling House of Ijebuland in Ogun State, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun has put an end to the rumours flying round that he’s interested in Ijebuland kingship.

Subomi who is the Olori Omo-oba and Otunba Tunwase of Akile Ijebu denied this during the annual general meeting of the Arojojoye Ruling House of Ijebuland held at Fusengbuwa Family Museum, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on Monday.

The lawyer cum banker maintained that, he is blessed enough and contended with what God has done for him to be eyeing the Awujale throne for himself or any of his four sons.

Subomi who insisted of a more cordial relationship with the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adesina said the succession rumour as sacrilege and taboo in the history of Ijebuland, stressing that, anybody eyeing the Awujale's throne while Oba Adetona still alive should be checked mentally.

He said: “I have no interest in Ijebuland kingship, Awujale of Ijebuland, Dr Sikiru Kayode Adetona is still alive and we must fear God.

“I’m contented with what I have and none of my children is eyeing any kingship even though they are boys but we are okay with what we have. It is a taboo in Yorubaland to be scheming for Oba’s successor when a reigning monarch is still alive.

“Awujale happens to be my friend and he’s the one that named me as Olori Omo-Oba in 1985 and I will never harm my fellow human being,” he said.

He continued, "I don't have interest in Obaship. If you fear God, don't mention my name, or my children in Ijebu Obaship. In fact, my children are abroad none of them is aware of this peddling Obaship rumour. They can hardly speak Yoruba language let alone speak Ijebu dialect, so discard the rumour going round that I wanted to install one of my four sons as next Awujale, I'm contented with what God has done for me.

"I'm too blessed to be fighting for Awujale's throne. My mother is from Tunwase. I'm appealing to you not to join any issues with anyone on Obaship tussle. If anybody comes to you on Obaship please get them arrested."
