President Muhammadu Buhari says thePresident Muhammadu Buhari says the administration will continue to encourage and support cultural festivals as veritable vehicles for strengthening co-existence among Nigerians.
He made this emphasis as the special guest of honour this Thursday at the Agricultural Show event in the ongoing Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, 2020.
The President acknowledge that such festivals draw the citizenry closer together against the backdrop of the nation’s diverse culture.
President Muhammadu Buhari added that the festivals had served as effective tools of boosting tourism, saying that the sector has not been fully developed.
He remarked that the revival of Argungu Fishing Festival after eleven years of inaction was evident of government’s commitment to restoring security and prosperity to the people.
President Muhammadu Buhari was also happy about the recognition of the Argungu Fishing Festival by UNESCO as world heritage event, emphasizing that the festival has been restored for good by GOD’s grace commenting on the agricultural fair, the Commander-in-Chief made it clear that the rice pyramids on display testified to the success of the agricultural revolution launched by him in Kebbi state in 2015, towards making the nation self-sufficient in food.
He was similarly glad to notice that farmers, fishermen and pastoralists communities have fully embraced the programme.
This is testimony he said, to the fact that Nigerians could produce what they desired and collectively solve their problems.
President Muhammadu Buhari made reference to the National Food Security Council of which he serves as the Chairman while Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is his deputy, setup to meeting Nigeria’s quest of food self-sufficiency.
He affirmed that the Federal Government would continue to provide the necessary agricultural input to farmers and enable them access market outlets for their produce.
The president thanked the people of Kebbi state for their unflinching support to the government, and commended Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Emir of Argungu, the Minister of Information, the Governor of the Central Bank and other stakeholders for making the Argungu Fishing Festival a remarkable event.
In his address, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu described President Muhammadu Buhari as a visionary leader who has provided the basic dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
The governor remarked that the agricultural show was a celebration of the revival of agricultural production launched by the President in Kebbi State in 2015 through the Anchor Borrowers Programme.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his policy on border closure which has proved beneficial to local farmers and facilitated attainment of self-sufficiency in food by Nigeria.
The Governor would however like the President to extend similar premium placed on rice production to other crops value chain.
The host, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, on behalf of the Emirate expressed special thanks to President Muhammadu Buhari for his physical presence to watch the agricultural show.
The Emir commended the Federal Government, Kebbi State Government, sponsors and other stakeholders for restoring the Fishing Festival this year after a long period of inactivity.
He said the festival served as historical documentary that symbolized diverse culture, strengthening unity and boosting economic prosperity.
