Yoruba PRESIDENCY!Why Governor Fayemi Is The Best.

The 2019 presidential election may have come and gone but the tussle for who replace president Muhammadu Buhari has not ended.

Politicians and political leaders have already started reaching to people, doing consultations and permutations ahead of 2023 for a possible replacement of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Yorubas of South West Nigeria are already agitating to be given the opportunity to produce the next president of the country, a position they last held in 1999-2007 during President Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.

The Yoruba people appeared to be the favorite to produce the next President of the country but the challenge of who will emerge from the region amongst several politicians who are rooting for the lofty position has been the problem.

Amongst several others, Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state appeared to be the favorite from the region who may fly APC presidential flag in 2023.

Born John Olukayode Fayemi on February 9, 1965, a native of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Fayemi who holds degree in History and International Relations from the University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University is Doctorate in War studies from King's College, University of London.

Fayemi was the Governor of Ekiti State between 2010-2014, he was then picked as the Minister of Mines and Steel Development between 2015-2018.

Fayemi was re-elected as the Governor Of Ekiti in the July 14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

ACHIEVEMENTS OF GOVERNOR KAYODE FAYEMI

Fayemi quest for good governance and Democratic state started as a central figure in Coalition of Civil Society Actors who resisted oppressive military rule in Nigeria in the early 1990s. Fayemi was instrumental in the founding and subsequent running of opposition radio stations while he was still in exile during military regime.

His efforts contributed to the restore of democratic government in Nigeria, the important role he played for the return of democratic government in Nigeria is documented in his book "Out of the Shadows: Exile and the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy in Nigeria (CDD, 2005)".

As the Governor of Ekiti State, his achievements have attracted people to Ekiti State because of selfless approach to governance.

Fayemi who has not rested on his oars since he took over the affairs of the state directed the abolition of education levies in public and private schools which was introduced by Fayose's administration.

Fayemi was the first Governor in Nigeria to start poverty alleviating programme in 2011 during his first tenure.

The porgramme tagged social security scheme for the elderly, also known as Owo Arugbocaptured about 20,000 elderly people who were paid N5, 000 monthly.

After winning his re-election in 2018, he has relaunched the scheme that was abandoned by his successor.

The programme has been a source of hope for the widows, elderly people and physically challenged.

Speaking about the programme, Fayemi said, "it was the first of its kind in sub-Sahara Africa. It attracted criticisms and commendations alike. I am glad that many, including the Federal Government, have taken a cue from us in the realisation that social security for the vulnerable segment of our population is the way to go", he said.

His infrastructural development and agricultural policies amongst several others have also been commended for the successes he has recorded in positioning the state as one of the most developed states in Nigeria.

Amongst several achievements as Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Fayemi increased exports in the mining sector by 592 percent between 2016 and 2017.

Fayemi also improved the productivity of the sector by tripling the sector's contribution to the federation account from a meager N700 million in 2015 to about N2 billion in 2016.

On the same vein, Fayemi whohad promised in 2016 to generate more than N3 billion through mining fees and royalty by 2017, however, generated far more than the expectation and contributed N3.5 billion to the Federation Account in 2017.

WHY FAYEMI IS THE BEST OPTION FOR 2023 PRESIDENT.

The sterling records of Fayemi has placed him above his contemporaries within the South West Nigeria and other politicians from the region may not have choice than to root for him when he finally declared his ambition to run for the office of the Nigeria President.

Another factor that will favor Fayemi is the fact that as a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Fayemi has been able to create political network within the country and has a good relationship with the cabals which will be of help to him in 2023 presidential race.

Another factor that will also help him in 2023 is his age. Many politicians from South West who are rumoured to have presidential ambition in 2023 are far more older than him. Nigerians will love to elect a young and vibrant politician as the country's president in 2023 and Fayemi appeared to be a perfect march for the job.
