2020 Guber Poll:Ondo populace will determine Akeredolu's performance

Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Adekola Olawuyi SAN has stated that the people of the state will determine the performance of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the October 10th governorship election in the state.

He disclosed this while addressing Newsmen at his country home in Owo during the just concluded Local Government election in Ondo State.

According to the commissioner, the APC led government under Arakunrin Akeredolu has deem it fit to conduct the election since 2019 but postpone it due to litigation and logistic problems."

Local Government is the third tier of government and it is the responsibility of any government to conduct the election in accordance with the constitution of Nigeria".

He further said the Caretaker Committee system of running the local government is alien to the constitution of Nigeria and violation to the law of the land. " It is an aberration to section 7 of the 1999 constitution as amended for any government to run the administration of the local government with caretaker committee; as a senior Advocate of Nigeria, the governor who is a custodian of law decided to conduct the election in line with the electoral act that recognise local government administration".

The Commissioner said the boycott of the poll by the major opposition party in the state, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was nothing but fear of losing due to the party's woefull performance while in the saddle of the state affairs.

" In the build up to the poll, the People's Democratic Party approached the court asking the court to stop ODIEC from conducting the election but their case was threw out by the court for lack of merit. The state electoral body met all the requirements in accordance with the electoral act and the court cannot do otherwise than to ask the body to continue with the election".

Meanwhile, Olawuyi said the performance of Akeredolu can only be assessed by the people of the state saying in less than four years, the governor performance has surpassed whatever his predecessor must have achieved in his eight years in office.

" In terms of infrastuctural development, improved health sector, education, prompt payment of salaries of workers and payment of outstanding salaries among others have proved Governor Akeredolu as a man of great vision. We inherited over #220 Billion debt from Mimiko's government but today, to the glory of God we have been able to pay sizeable chunks of the debt, regardless that we are still paying salaries".

He enjoined the people of the state to come out enmass on the 10th of October and vote for Governor Akeredolu continuity of people's oriented projects and programmes." You don't change a winning team; for continuity of good governance and dividend of democracy, the people of the state must see it as duty to reelect Akeredolu back to office".
