Aare Onakankafo, Iba Gani Adams, Commander Oladejo, Other Mourn Alaafin of Oyo

Aare Onakankafo of Yoruba Land, Iba Gani Adams has lamented the death of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, describing the transition of the highly revered monarch to the world beyond as a big blow to the Oyo Kingdom and Yoruba race.

Speaking during his visit to the family of the late monarch in Oyo Kingdom, Iba Gani Adams said he received the news of the transition of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, with a rude shock. 

“I was highly devastated on hearing that Iku Baba Yeye has joined his ancestors. We have lost a quintessential traditional ruler, custodian of the Yoruba culture, historian and deposit of history".

 His contributions to the development and advancement of the country and Yoruba Land in particular are unquantifiable. “He was a great pillar. A great giant who did not only represent our cultural values but also preserved and promoted the Yoruba culture.

Iba Gani Adams further described him as one monarch in Yoruba Land that always stand by the truth and courageous to speaks to power without fear. 

 He was a repository of knowledge. “With over five decades on the throne of his fathers, Oba Lamidi III was the longest-reigning Alaafin whose reign had been the most remarkable for the entire Oyo Kingdom.

 He added that the efforts of the late Alafin toward the unity and progress of the Yoruba can not be forgotten in a hurry because he cherished unity among Youruba nation.

" Yoruba nation must unify themselves and see the death of the highly respected monarch as unifying factors to bond us together. We must all see ourselves as one and speak with one voice".

He added: “His commitment toward ensuring the unity of the Yoruba can not be forgotten in a hurry. He lived a life invariably imbued with candour and resplendence. He was royal to the end.” 

He expressed his condolences to Oba Adeyemi’s immediate family, the Oyo State Traditional Council, the Oyomesi, the people of Oyo Kingdom and the entire Yoruba race. He prays that the Almighty Allah will accept Baba’s soul and give him eternal rest in his blossom. 

Meanwhile, speaking with newsmen in separate interviews, commander Bolaji Oladejo,the commander Military Science School Saki Oyo State described Alafin as a great and brave monarch, thanking God for a life well spent and his contributions to Oyo Kingdom and humanity. 

His words: " The death of my father was a great shock to us, when I heard about it, I couldn't believe it and I have to call the palace for confirmation".

Also, Omolara Adeyemi, a daughter-in-law to the monarch said his death came to her as a shock, saying the family are looking up to when they will celebrate Baba 100 years on earth. 

" It is unbelievable that he is dead; even though he lived a well fulfilled life, we don't want him to go at this time. A man full of wisdom, intelligent, historian, a man of peace, definitely, we are going to miss his departure".
