2023: Why We Settled For Consensus Candidates- Oyo PDP

The Oyo State Chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has given reasons why the party agreed to settle for consensus candidates ahead of the party's primary and 2023 general election. 

Speaking with Oduduwa watch correspondent in his office, the State Chairman of the party, Hon Dayo Ogungbenro disclosed that the need to harmonise and unite the party ahead of the 2023 general election led to the agreement among the stakeholders of the party to settled for consensus. 

"Our party is almost 90 percent ready for the primaries.We are the ruling party in Oyo State and everyone is looking forward to a successful outing. We are doing everything possible to unite everyone and you can be assured that our party will be stronger after the primaries".

He said the party is working towards having all the aspirants in the race to unite and ensure sellable and best candidates are presented for the general election. 

According to him, " In the 32 state constituencies, we resolved about 30 through consensus and we are working on the remaining; for us to win, we must put our house in order".

Ogunbenro said the party has not deviate from electoral act that gives room for consensus. " We have three methods of conducting primaries; direct, indirect and consensus. We settled for consensus to reduce the numbers of aspirant and Governor Seyi Makinde played significant roles in it".

" Out of the 14 fedreral constituencies of the state, we succeeded in 11; Governor Seyi Makinde is looking forward to100 percent consensus. The Governor has taken it upon himself to unite and hamonise all aspirants and to great extent, we have achieved".

Meanwhile, the chairman said the People's Democratic Party believes in rule of law and will conduct both the state primaries and National Convention in accordance with the law of the country and party's constitution.

" The last PDP Convention is a lesson deepen democracy; we had a successful convention as against APC where aspirants were coerced to step down for anointed candidates of cabals".

He noted that, Nigerians are yearning for People's Democratic Party to come back to power and rescue the country's from the mis-govenance of the ruling All Progressive Congress.

" To rescue the nation from APC, PDP needs to field it's best andidate that will be generally acceptable to Nigerians ahead of 2023 elections".

He appealed to electorates in Oyo State to vote the People's Democratic Party again in the state, saying 3 years of Governor Seyi Makinde recorded unprecedented achievements when compared to the 8 years of the APC led government in the state.
