As I said repeatedly, not least during my recent readiness assessment visits to the three States, INEC is not a political party and we have no candidate in the election. Our responsibility is to safeguard the process and ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates. Polling Unit results will be uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal. All election duty officials have been trained. Arrangements have been made for land and maritime transportation to enable us commence voting on schedule. In spite of the extremely difficult terrain and physical infrastructure in some locations, we are determined to ensure that our officials are there waiting for voters rather than the voters waiting for our arrival.</div><div><br></div><div>“For these off-cycle elections, the Commission is deploying two (2) National Commissioners, nine (9) Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and Administrative Secretaries (ASs) as well as additional staff from different States to each of the three States to support the process. They will be deployed across the senatorial zones in the States, He assured."</div><div>"Election is a multi-stakeholder responsibility. As with every election, lessons have been learnt from recent elections. We will continue to ensure free, fair and credible and inclusive elections but INEC cannot do it alone. We have received assurances from the security agencies that the environment will be secure for electoral activities and all participants: voters, electoral officials, accredited observers, the media and polling/collation agents. Political parties and candidates have signed the peace accord under the auspices of the National Peace Committee (NPC). Let us maintain the peace and play our roles conscientiously. </div> The Former Governor of Enugu State and National Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has says free, fair and credible elections would be difficult in Nigeria. <br></div><div><br></div><div> The Former PDP National Chairman stated this during a media chatted with newsmen, yesterday in Abuja. </div><div> Nwodo said "with the declaration of the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court, it would be difficult to have free, fair and credible elections in because politicians will steal and kill to win as well as ask loser to go to court .</div><div><br></div><div> "I align myself with the views expressed by Atiku in his press conference for many reasons. He summarised the areas in which the general public was dissatisfied with the decisions of the PEPC and the Supreme Court. The dissatisfaction of the general public emanates primarily from the two courts relying heavily on technicalities and avoiding the real issues. You cannot tell me that justice was done when you say that Bola Tinubu’s Account was guilty of money laundering and Bola Tinubu is innocent. You cannot tell me that the constitution which realises that we have 36 state and that you must score 25% of votes in at least two thirds of the 36 state and Abuja, simple English Language, technicalities were brought to tell us that FCT is not special but it doesn’t have three senators, a plethora of Rep members or a state governor, but it is administered by a minister who sits in cabinet (it has just a senator and two Reps, in spite of the fact that its landmass is bigger than most states. Now FCT residents and indigenes are asking that FCT becomes the 37th state because the courts have granted them statehood. How do you handle that? The court in the US that insisted on the Chicago State University, CSU, deposition, understood the importance but the courts waved it aside using technicalities. But today, our doctors and nurses in some parts of the world are being subjected to terrible experiences with their certificates. Some of them cannot proceed with their internship because they are Nigerians while others are being processed, just because there are issues with the certificate of our president. The crucial democratic fundamentals were avoided and that is what some Nigerians are not happy about.</div><div>Reacting to the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi States, Nwodo said "if what Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, did in February and March this year is anything to go by, Nigerians should not expect free, fair and credible elections" He ended.</div>Oduduwa Watchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11495123009583689931noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989799331288345999.post-57233673843622042452023-11-08T01:51:00.001-08:002023-11-08T01:51:47.642-08:00OBIDIENT MOVEMENT, LP NOW A MAIN OPPOSITION _ OBI<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>History reveals that the great Ibadan empire builder whose name could not be easily forgotten inbYorubaland having fought the aYoruba major war in the late 19th century was an Ilora man known as Aare Obadoke Latosa. The name of his father was Ore Orisa. Before his sojourn to Ibadan as a war veteran,he was a farmer and specialised in the planting of palm trees. <br></div><div><br></div><div>On arrival in Ibadan, Latoosa joined Ogunmola’s private army and exhibited great warfare skills and he later became the captain of his guards. In October 3, 1871, Latoosa was conferred the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo (the generalismo of Ibadan army) and the ruler of Ibadan. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Obadoke Latoosa (or Latosisa) was the 12th Kakanfo of Ibadan or Yorubalqnd. He was worthy of mention because he was the Kakanfo on throne during the 17year war known as Kiriji war which happened to be the longest civil war in Yoruba history, 1877-1893. He was also the last military Kakanfo, being succeeded by a civil man and the f9rmer premier of western region, an Ogbomosho man, Samuel Ladoke Akintola. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Oral history mentions that for more thaj 16 years, the veteran warlord (Latoosa) remained childless, despite all the sacrifices and propitiations to the gods of the land. Due to the growing influence of Ilorin, whose new Emir, Abd Salaam had sacked the capital of Old Oyo Empire at Katunga, Latoosa opted for the Islamic faith, and took the name Mohammed, known and pronounced in Yoruba as Momodu, and became fully known as Momodu Obadoke Latoosa. Shortly after his conversion, his wife birthed a son who he named Sanusi, believing that his childlessness ended as a result of his new faith. Many historical accounts concur that Latoosa, actually usurped the title of his predecessor, Ojo Aburumaku, who later became the Soun of Ogbomoso.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>As a result of vacancy on the throne of Ibadan after Balogun Ajobo went on self exile and the death of Baale Orowusi, Latoosa and Ajayi Ogboriefon were the most senior chiefs left. Latoosa claimed that he could not rule with the title of Baalel being a civil title and opted to be the ruler of Ibadan with the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo. In his view, the titles of Basorun and Baale were of lower ranks that brave soldiers should not take. He was a popular ruler and never afraid of war.</div><div>As the successor state to Oyo Empire, Ibadan under his rule called the shots. He appointed administrators for vassal states and towns. (Popular commanders that served under Latoosa included balogun Ibikunle, who would later be Latoosa’s nemesis. This is not correct.) These administrators were called Ajeles. Many of the Ajeles ruled with high-handedness, and in Oke-Imesi, in today’s Ekiti State, one Ajele forcefully had carnal knowledge of a woman who was returning from the farm. The woman turned out to be the wife of an Oke-Imesi prince, Fabunmi. The defiled woman, in tears, narrated her ordeal to her husband, and infuriated, Fabunmi drew his sword, marched to the Ajele’s quarters, and beheaded him and his guards. Those of the Ajele’s entourage that survived the carnage wrought by Fabunmi fled for dear lives, and returned to Ibadan, where they reported happenings to the Kakanfo, Latoosa. The Kakanfo saw what hap0ened at Okemesi as an affront on his authority and declared war on the them. Oke-Mesi, being Ekiti, sought the help of their ethnic kith and kin in Ijesaland, a famous general called Ogedengbe Agbogungboro, rallied warriors from Ekitiland and Ijesaland into a coalition of forces known as the Ekiti Parapo, jointly commanded by Ogedengbe and Fabunmi. Thus, in 1877, the series of battles that would later be known as Kiriji Wars began, and lasted for 16 years. It is said to be the longest civil war in Yoruba history. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It is on record that he was the Ibadan ruler that eventually put an end to the inhuman treatment of slaves in Yorubaland when he decisively dealt with a renowned slave dealer and women leader, Efunsetan Aniwura. This story has been romaticised in movies, and is the subject of a Yoruba novel by Emeritus Professor, Akinwunmi Isola of the University of Ibadan. In 1885, while the Kiriji War was still on and the Europeans were in Berlin at a conference later known in history as the Scramble for and partition Africa, Latoosa met his waterloo in an unexpected way.</div><div>He had a slave whom he loved so much and accorded the rights of a freeborn. Being under the protection of the Kakanfo, this slave took liberties beyond his rights, and was frequently reported to Latoosa who however continued to indulge him. On an occasion, the slave insulted one of Latoosa’s generals, Balogun Ibikunle.( couldnt be true) lIbikunle chastised the slave, and according to some reports, had him whipped. The slave reported his ordeal to Latoosa, who summoned Ibikunle before him and demanded why he should treat his slave that way. Ibikunle, angered that a general like him could be asked to state his side of a case involving a slave, drew his sword and beheaded the slave. Other generals were present, and arrayed themselves on Ibikunle’s side. Latoosa saw his error of judgement, and turned, entered his chambers, and took poison.</div><div>He was said to be a friendly person who would greet people with a smile, but he could also be stubborn, obstinate and sometimes cruel; like the typical Kakanfo, especially the likes of Kurunmi and Afonja, who bore the title before him.( Again this story coupdnt be true as earlier stated. I dont think ther was someone named Balogun Ibikunle during Latosa era) You can remove the story if not sure.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>So far, Latoosa’s family has produced two rulers in Ibadan; first, the Aare himself and his son, Baale Situ, who was banished to Saki in 1925. The part of Ibadan named Oke Are was named after the veteran Ibadan warlord... Aare Latoosa.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Culled from Ilora Mirror Magazine.</div>Oduduwa Watchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11495123009583689931noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6989799331288345999.post-21860805012098668202023-09-13T05:08:00.001-07:002023-09-13T05:08:02.679-07:00DELTA POLICE COMMAND DEBUNKS VIRAL KIDNAPPING CLIP<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>The former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on Wednesday, gave reasons he was furious with the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, in the build up to the last elections.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Addressing journalists in his Ibadan residential home after observing Eid prayers, Ladoja said he was disgusted at the governor's lack of support for the senatorial and House of Representatives candidates of the peoples Democratic party (PDP) in the last elections such that the party lost the three senatorial seats and nine reps seats.</div><div><br></div><div>Ladoja said his stand was that even if the governor was not supporting the presidential candidate of the PDP in the last elections, he should not act such that the chances of other candidates of the party in the national assembly elections in the state would be jeopardized.</div><div><br></div><div>Asked if there was a clash of interests prior to the election, he said; what happened was that I got furious because I felt that the governor should have supported his candidates for the senatorial and House of Representatives elections, even if he did not want to support the presidential candidate. But, he did not support the senators; he lost the three senatorial seats; he lost nine House of Representatives seats.</div><div><br></div><div>"I was disgusted. That's the only thing. I then said that election will have effects on his own election. If that is what people feel is not right , that's their own opinion. I was not contesting, my son was not contesting likewise my wife was not contesting".</div><div><br></div><div>On his present relationship in the aftermath of how the election planned out, Ladoja boasted that he had a father- son relationship with Makinde.</div><div><br></div><div>"I have father to son relationship with Seyi Makinde . it is cordial.
