FLOODING:Kebbi Govt to Give Pallative to Rice Farmers

Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has promised to give palliative to rice farmers in the state who loss their harvest to flood saying his government will continue to respond to the need of the people in face of daunting challenges. 

Governor Atiku Bagudu double as the Vice Chairman of Food Security Council of Nigeria which is chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He commiserated with rice farmers in Argungu, Kwakkwashe, Zazzagawa, Jaffeji, Sabon Garin Birnin Tudu, Bubuche, Bayawa, Tiggi, Bangarawa, Gidan Agoda, Gudale, Dukke, Dalkan, Matan Fada, Shafarma and surrounding villages, assuring them of prompt palliative assistance from the state government to cushion effect of their losses.

Addressing the grieving farmers, Governor Bagudu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that the flood also affected neighboring states of Zamfara and Sokoto where the dams broke.

In addition to the palliative, the governor promised to synergised with the Federal Government to prevent reoccurrence of the calamity in the future.

The Governor had an intense interactive session with National President of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria RIFAN,Alh. Aminu Goronyo, officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria and official of RIFAN Northern West Zone, during which they cross pollinated ideas with a view  of finding lasting solution to the perennial disaster.

At the end of the session, the Governor appealed to the affected farmers to always listen to warnings from professional bodies  like NEMA, asking the agency to keep on alerting the people on the dangers of living along river banks and the need to relocate during rainy season. 

Meanwhile, the Chairman of State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, Alh. Sani Dododo informed the Governor that SEMA has sent reasonable quantities of relief materials to the affected farmers which have been distributed to the affected households while adequate provisions have been made to provide drugs, clean water, healthcare and all other necessary facilities.

The affected communities expressed profound appreciation and gratitude to the governor for his timely visit, assistance and support during the trying time.

Also responding, the community leaders Alhaji Sule Muhammad Mera, Sarkin Gobir Lailaba, Magaji Amadu of Sabon Gari Birnin Tudu and Sardaunan Zazzagawa urged the Governor to as a matter of urgency provide them with water pumping machines, fertilizer and all the necessary help to enable them embark to dry season farming in order to make up for their losses.

The Governor address hundreds of displaced persons in Zazzagawa and Kwakwashe villages whom he assured of his administration support saying they will soon go back to their various homes.
